January 10 2002 Meeting Minutes

 

The January 10, 2002 parent meeting was held in the St. Pius Library. Families represented were (in no particular order):  Dahl, Chartrand, R Diedrich, M Diedrich, Timm, Gorecki, Becker, Sitzer, Zanoni, Nos, Streiff, Murry, and Gaustad. November minutes were approved as written.

 

Scoutmaster Report- J. Becker reported that we are 1164 out of 1270 on the waiting list for Philmont in 2003. Chances are that the troop will not have the opportunity to go to Philmont in 2003. More leadership is being expected of the scouts, and this is required for advancement. Some scouts may not advance due to lack of participation in their leadership positions.

 

Camping Report- J. Becker reported that there were 0 signups for the GSR Winter Camporee and 10 for Tomahawk Winter Camp. The summer camp date has been decided and will be June 29-July 6 at Many Point.

 

Treasurer Report- M. Zanoni distributed the budget for this year. The budget was adjusted to reflect the committee’s desire to allocate $150 to provide money for JLC in the spring (a total of $200 for adult and youth training). M. Zanoni is still determining what percentage to use for returning fundraising money to the scout accounts, and will return with a proposal at the next parent meeting.

 

Advancement Report-M. Sitzer indicated that merit badge cards for merit badges to be awarded at the February 11 court of honor need to be turned in to her by February 4. Scouts which are advancing must have books and full uniforms, attend a Scoutmaster Conference, attend the Board of Review, get the names of the Board members, and meet with M. Sitzer when this is completed in order to advance at the February 11 court of honor.

 

Merit Badge Report- D. Chartrand reported that a merit badge counselors is needed for Emergency Preparedness. Please contact Doug (282-6576, Doug@Chartrand.net) if you are interested in taking any of these on.

 

Den Chiefs- There was no report.

 

Outmeetings- The January 28th outmeeting at the bank has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled.

New Business-

1.        T. Haimes handed out an updated troop handbook at the November parent meeting. Please review and submit comments at the next parent meeting.

2.        New Leader Essentials is being offered on February 7 at Calvary Baptist Church from 7-8:30. This is mandatory training for all new leaders or leaders assuming new positions.

3.        Troop Committee training is being offered at Cabela’s on March 2 from 12:30-4:00. This training is recommended for all troop committee members. New Leader Essentials is a prerequisite.

4.        C. Gorecki is investigating opportunities for Northern Tier high adventure this summer in the Boundary Waters. Contact him at 281-3916 if interested in joining in.
